Transcendentalism

Transcendentalism is a literary time period. Though it was founded in approximately 1800 and ended in approximately 1850, some of it’s values are still prevalent today.
It’s founder was Ralph Waldo Emerson, who passed the torch to Henry David Thoreau. Of the two I personally prefer Emerson. He often writes of self reliance. This was even a name for one of his more famous works.
Thoreau on the other hand, is quite hypocritical, in my opinion. His more known work was Civil Disobedience (please excuse my improper citations). This is a 14 page, regular print, nap worthy paper.
Mr. Thoreau was a typical rebel! He positively refused to pay his taxes. This was, of course, his own version of civil disobedience. In order to understand my view of hypocritical Mr. Thoreau, you must read his paper.

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.

Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail.
